Écriture Trans-Féminine is a 6-week class devoted to reading, writing, and thinking through the trans feminine. The name originally derives from Hélène Cixous’s concept of écriture feminine—women’s writing—from her classic essay, ‘The Laugh of the Medusa.’ In “Écriture trans-féminine?” Juliet Jacques revisits and extends Cixous’s concept as a way to talk about the cultural and material circumstances that have shaped (and at times constrained) trans writing. In this class we will read a selection work by self-identified trans women writers with particular attention to their formal tendencies. What kind of modes of trans feminine writing are currently in circulation? We will also be engaging in writing exercises responding to the work we read, as well as giving space in which to propose new directions with our writing.

Zoe Tuck was born in Texas, became a person in California, and now lives in Massachusetts, where she is building the Threshold Academy, a future bookstore and non-traditional educational / performance space.
